Acupressure And Cupping

With a history of 2000 to 3000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a history of 2000 to 3000 years.  TCM is a unique system to diagnose and cure illness. The TCM approach is fundamentally different from that of Western medicine. In TCM, the understanding of the human body is based on the holistic understanding of the universe and the treatment of illness is based primarily on the diagnosis and differentiation of syndromes. TCM is more and more widely seen and practiced as another form of alternative healing in this modern times.

In this article, we shall cover the topic on acupressure and touch a little on acupuncture as well as cupping.

Poor blood circulation causes pains in the neck, back, shoulder, waist or even feet, numbness in the limbs and bouts of headaches sometimes. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help you relieve these pains. Most of these China trained therapists serve acupoints and acupressure massage or foot reflexology. These services improve blood circulation and recover your body’s “qi”. You can get instant relief from these treatments.

TCM theory is extremely complex and originated thousands of years ago through meticulous observation of nature, the cosmos, and the human body.

Following are some of the treatments used by TCM:

1. Acupressure

This is where the therapist applies pressure on major points through skin surface to stimulate the body’s natural self. It is said to be widely practised in China hospitals as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupressure can serve in Massage, Injury Treatment, Stiff Neck / Shoulder Back Ache, Rheumatism & Arthritis, Reliving of Tiredness & Stress, Whole Body (Head to Toes) Massage, Stomach Massage (Slimming) and Foot Reflexology.

2. What is the difference between Acupressure and Acupuncture?

Acupuncture employs 2 to 3 inches long needles onto the pressure points, while acupressure applies the gentle yet firm pressure by hands and fingers to stimulate the same pressure points.

3. Who needs acupressure?

Acupressure is effective to help us in relieving headaches, eyestrain, skin problems, neck pain, backaches, arthritis, muscle aches and tension, impotence, and high blood pressure.

4. How acupressure helps?

* Improves blood circulation

* Relieve muscle aches and tension

* Improve organs function

* Flush out toxicity in the body

* Adjust twisted and sprained joints

* Firming body shape (slimming)

* Slow down aging process and give radiance to skin & hair

* Whatever acupuncture does it will do without the needles

5. Cupping

Cupping is another method of applying acupressure.  bamboo cupping Acupressure And Cupping

Another type of Chinese massage, cupping consists of placing several glass “cups” (open spheres) or bamboo cups on the affected parts of the body. A match is lit and placed inside the cup and then removed before placing the cup against the skin of the affected areas to be treated. The resulting effect is the burning of oxygen within the cup, creating a relative vacuum that allows the cup to stick to the skin via vacuum-like suction. When combined with massage oil, the cups can be slid around the back, offering what some practitioners think of as a reverse-pressure massage. This will take at least 10 minutes before the cups are being removed. The places where the cups were will have round patches resulting from the suction. Some may be very light but some may be very very dark red patches which means to say there are lots of “wind” in that particular areas. This means several treatments required to this areas. This negative pressure can take out coldness and wetness, thus relieving any pain.  Cupping has been used since ancient times to increase the circulation of ‘qi’ and blood.
